Arkansas Peace Week (September 18-25) offers great youth programs for schools and youth programs.
Peace Week Essay Contest – Essay Contest for 7th – 12 Grade Students
1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners in six age categories will receive prizes.

Winners are invited to read their essays at the Arkansas State Capitol on September 25.

School and Group Lesson Plans and Resources
Lesson plans and resources developed in partnership with LRSD and Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS). We invite all Arkansas schools and youth groups to participate and present these lessons teaching peacemaking skills to the youth in our state.
Please share this with children and organizations you know. Schools, teachers, faith groups and other youth organizations are encouraged to sponsor and guide students with their submissions.
We began these programs in 2017 when Pax Christi Little Rock (PCLR) worked with school counselor Mildred Calhoun to develop a peace curriculum for Little Rock’s Rockefeller Elementary. The following year we worked with Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) and Little Rock School District to expand these non-violence lesson plans and resources for elementary age students. In 2021 over 15,000 students participated from Little Rock School District, Pulaski County Special School District, and many private schools.
Today schools and students from all over the state participated in Peace Week. In our first year of the Peace Week Art Contest and Peace Week Essay Contest we had over 500 entries from all over the state: from Bella Vista to McGehee and Blytheville to Eldorado.
In 2022 we seek to continue offering the programs all over the state.

Mrs. Clements' GT students had a book tasting today!! Mrs. Clements had treats and a variety of books prepared for her students! Students had 10 minutes to sample the book, then note their opinion.

The Osceola School District Support Service Department is in partnership with Career Development and Training Institute and Arkansas Rehabilitation Services. For the first semester, CDTI and ARS will provide our students with job exploration, counseling on opportunities for enrollment in post secondary education, workplace readiness, and instruction in self-advocacy.
Students who are ready to engage in work-based learning for the second semester, CDTI and ARS will focus solely on work-based learning activities. Students will be able to have on the job training and earn wages while learning.
Ms. Stokes loves her sixth graders!! After turning in their homework, students immediately join her for a circle of encouragement and character building. The students proudly recited their good behavior pledge, followed by student led prayer. Jordan Walker was hugged by his classmates after his touching prayer.

Ms. Maxwell's sixth grade students worked diligently to create a building like structure made of marshmallows and toothpicks. The structure needed to be strong enough to withstand an "earthquake" (pan of Jell-O).

College Recruiter Riley Wilson from the University of Arkansas hosted a UA -Connections Day event at Osceola High School. Silas Hunt UA-Connection event informed our students about the life and legacy of Silas Hunt breaking through the color barrier of higher education and starting the integration of Southern white Colleges throughout the south once he was admitted to the University of Arkansas. His goal was to use this story to start the year off by encouraging them to pursue a higher education as well as tell them about the unique UA-Connection scholarship that's available to any student from Osceola High School with a 3.0 high school GPA, 20 on the ACT, and submits a scholarship application by November 15th or February 1st. Qualifying students will receive the $5,000 Silas Hunt Scholarship renewable for 4 years totaling $20,000 over 4 years.

Osceola Middle School Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 8:30-3:00. A note was sent home last week concerning PTC , and a QR code will be sent home tomorrow to sign up for conferences. We look forward to seeing you!
Thursday, September 1st will be our first Parent/Teacher Conference. Conferences will be held from 8:30am to 3:00pm.
Students will not attend Thursday or Friday.
Osceola School District will be closed Monday, September 5th for Labor Day.
School will resume regular hours on Tuesday, September 6th.
The Students in 21st Century After School Program @ Osceola Middle School had a great first day.
On Friday, our students at the Choices Learning Center prepared breakfast for the staff and students as part of the Life Skills Program. Our students prep the food, cook the food, serve the food and lastly cleaned up the appliances and feeding area.
The students are learning basic cooking skills, proper hygienes, appropriate customer service skills and team working through our cooking program. Our students prepare breakfast once a month for the staff and students on campus.

The State Championship Ring Ceremony was very successful yesterday evening. All players, cheerleaders, Coaches, and administrators were very excited to receive their rings and pendants. So what is happening at the Choices Learning Center during week four?
Well students and teachers are engaged in the learning process in all of their core classes. Students are participating in Social and Emotional Learning activities during their pullouts and Lastly, Seniors are setting weekly goals in preparation for their upcoming graduation in May of 2023.
