OHS/Track and Field
Dreyln Haymon, OHS Senior, qualifies for the State Track and Field meet to be held on May 2, 2023 in Prescott, Arkansas. Dreyln placed first in the 200 meter dash, at a meet in Marion, Arkansas, with an outstanding time of 22.95.
Drelyn has also been named one of the top 25 200 meter athletes in the State of Arkansas.

OHS/Youth Leadership Team
Congratulations to the OHS 11th grade Youth Leadership Team on receiving top honors today at the county-wide meeting and competition at ANC! The leadership program includes 6 different school districts in Mississippi County. The OHS team members are Kadan Newson, BreAnn Fultz-Foster, Damia Grice and Alyssa Crafton
They received top place for their group presentation today, which is a first for Osceola!
Two of the members were recognized for their individual essays: Kadan Newson, 2nd place and Alyssa Crafton, 3rd place.
Today was the finale of the year-long program.

OHS/BRS Campus Visit
Big River Steel met with the Juniors and Seniors on April 5 in the OHS cafeteria to talk to them about the BRS High School Program. Informing them of the various positions available, with or without a college degree, and about working in the steel industry. Applications were available for students.

OSD / Threat of severe weather
Tomorrow afternoon Friday, March 31, 2023, there is a threat of severe weather moving into the area close to dismissal time. Our top priority is to keep students and staff safe. If you choose to check your child(ren) out early, the early check out for Friday, March 31, 2023 will be excused. District administration will be monitoring the weather throughout the day. Please be prepared for a possible early release should it be deemed necessary based on expected weather conditions.

OHS/JROTC Curriculum In Action
Cadets from Osceola High School AF JROTC traveled to the 164 AW TNANG in Memphis, TN. Cadets learned about many different types of jobs that the Air National Guard has to offer from being a Defender, Fire Fighter, Aerospace Flight Equipment, Personnel, and Maintenance. While at Security Forces, they were able to see the different weapon systems and try on the protective gear that the Defenders wear daily.
OHS Cadets were also allowed to don an EPOS (Emergency Personal Oxygen System) breathing apparatus that showed them how to save their life when a military plane looses its cabin pressure. A demonstration by Cadets Ty Mitchell and Nevaeh Jones on the proper inflation of a life jacket.
Finally, the Cadets were allowed to see the inside of a C-17 aircraft including the cockpit. Cadets were eager to learn about the many different job opportunities that are available in the military.

Happy Pi Day!
Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π. Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant figures of π. It was founded in 1988 by Larry Shaw, an employee of the San Francisco, California science museum, the Exploratorium. It also happens to be Albert Einstein's birthday.

OHS/Black History Program
The OHS Black History Program, under the direction of Ms. Nicole Brown, was a huge success. Jordan Buchanan, OHS Sophomore, welcomed everyone and Cordia Williams, OHS Junior, lead the opening prayer. Logan Slayton, OHS Senior, and Jakayla White, OHS Junior, were the MC's for the program. Informing the audience of historical African American citizens who became heroes through their unselfish acts to abolish racial discrimination. Logan and Jakayla also shared inspirational stories about black music shaping the world and how sports have played an integral role in black culture. The OHS choir did and amazing job singing "The Negro National Anthem," "A Change is Going to Come," "Total Praise," and "Stand Up". Alyssa Crafton recited an original poem she wrote, "We're Too Forgiving". Monicca Crume came to the stage as Michael Jackson, the first African American musician to appear on MTV. Jaden Tipler took the stage as Jesse Owens, the highest ranked Track and Field star. With 8 individual NCAA championships and 4 gold Olympic metals won in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.
